MLB

The Detroit Tigers got a three-run homer from Jeimer Candelario in the top of the 10th inning, then held off the Boston Red Sox 6-5 last night. Casey Mize controlled the Sox early, giving up just three hits and one run over six innings. He left with a three-run lead, thanks to a pair of RBI singles from JaCoby Jones. A homer by former Tiger J.D. Martinez tied the game in the seventh. After Candelario’s blow in the top of the 10th, the Sox scored once off Gregory Soto in the bottom of the inning. Michael Fulmer replaced Soto with one out and runners at the corners. Another run scored on an error, but Fulmer then retired the next to batters to earn the save.

The Tigers wrap up that series in Boston this afternoon. Spencer Turnbull will start against Nathan Eovaldi. Coverage will begin at 12:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Philadelphia Phillies scored five runs in the first inning, and outlasted the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4 last evening. The big blow was a grand slam by Didi Gregorius. Freddy Peralta took the loss. Tyrone Taylor homered for the Crew.

The Brewers close out that series at Philadelphia this afternoon. Brandon Woodruff will start against Zack Wheeler.

NFL

The Detroit Lions are giving up on running back Kerryon Johnson. Multiple reports say the team will place him on waivers as early as today. Johnson was Detroit’s second-round draft pick in 2018. The Lions also signed veteran tight end Darren Fells, to fill the roster spot created by the retirement of Josh Hill.
