Gremlins, Kings Earn Hockey Wins – Wednesday Sports Wrap

High School
In high school hockey last night…
– Seth Francois scored the winning goal in overtime, as Houghton edged Kingsford 4-3.
– Calumet defeated Marquette 3-2. Nick Djerf and Rylan Anderson scored for the Copper Kings, and Brent Loukus had the game-winner.

In high school girls basketball last night…
– L’Anse outscored Houghton 60-45.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell cruised past Watersmeet 62-38.
– Baraga smothered Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 58-8.
– Ewen-Trout Creek slipped past Chassell 49-45.
– Ontonagon overwhelmed Wakefield-Marenisco 41-19.

In boys action last evening, Houghton fell to Kingsford 59-42.

Finlandia
Both Finlandia University basketball teams suffered lopsided losses at Wisconsin-Oshkosh last night. The women fell 70-27. Katie Lundeen scored 10 points. The men lost 95-48. Dylan Underwood led the Lions with 21 points.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings suffered a 6-5 shootout loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning last night. Frans Nielsen had a hat trick for Detroit, and Gustav Nyquist scored twice. Jimmy Howard made 30 saves. The Wings visit the Toronto Maple Leafs tomorrow.

Detroit will play without Anthony Mantha for the next four to six weeks. He broke his hand during a fight in Detroit’s loss to Colorado Sunday.

The NHL is adding another team. The new franchise in Seattle will begin play in the 2021-2022 season. It will complete in the Pacific Division, with the Arizona Coyotes moving to the Central Division.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons visit the Milwaukee Bucks tonight. Pregame coverage begins at 7:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
The Green Bay Packer’s coaching makeover continues. Associate head coach Winston Moss has been dismissed. Moss joined the staff in 2006, making the move from New Orleans with Mike McCarthy. His firing yesterday came after he posted a tweet that criticized McCarthy’s recent termination.

Our high school basketball coverage continues tomorrow night, when the Houghton boys play at L’Anse. The pregame show will start around 7:00 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
