See the full schedule for all our local high school teams here.

Copper Country football teams are noticeably lacking in this week’s poll from the U.P. Sportswriters and Sportscasters. In the 11-player poll, Marquette received all five first-place votes, followed by Kingsford, Sault Ste. Marie, Westwood and Negaunee. Menominee and Calumet earned honorable mention votes. In the eight-player poll, Ontonagon placed fourth, behind North Central, Forest Park and Pickford. Newberry was fifth, and Norway received an honorable mention vote.

Friday night’s football game between Houghton and West Iron County has been canceled. The Wykons have been struggling with low numbers and injuries all season, and don’t have enough healthy players to take the field. The Gremlins will be awarded a 1-0 forfeit victory.

College Soccer

The Finlandia men’s soccer team blanked Lincoln Christian 7-0 yesterday. Mohamed Koroma had a hat trick, Sam Williams scored twice, and Bryson Beck and Keegan Lerchenfeldt each found the net once. The Lions will play at Illinois College tonight.

Koroma has been named Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. He’s the first Lion men’s soccer player to win a weekly award in the C2C. Koroma scored two goals, including the game winner, in last week’s game against Lincoln Christian. He added a third tally in Finlandia’s loss to Illinois Tech.

College Volleyball

Michigan Tech’s Anna Jonynas has been named the GLIAC Volleyball North Division Player of the Week. It’s her second such honor this season, and the third in her career. Jonynas tallied 28 kills in the Huskies’ wins over Lake Superior State and Northwood last weekend.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers’ late comeback fell short, as they fell to the Chicago White Sox 8-7 yesterday. The Sox took command in the fourth inning, chasing Detroit starter Matt Manning as they scored six times. They tacked on two in the seventh off Ian Krol. Detroit picked up a couple of early runs, then erupted for five in the eighth inning, but couldn’t complete the comeback. Jonathan Schoop homered for the Bengals.

The Tigers visit the Minnesota Twins tonight. Tyler Alexander will start for Detroit. Coverage will begin at 7:20 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers had yesterday off, and open a series in Saint Louis tonight. Brandon Woodruff will pitch against Adam Wainwright.

NFL

In last night’s game, the Dallas Cowboys outscored the Philadelphia Eagles 41-21. Dak Prescott threw three touchdown passes.

If you played The Wolf Pro Football Challenge, you must have picked at least 14 games correctly to be eligible to become our weekly winner.

Youth Hockey

Keweenaw Bay Hockey Association sign-ups will take place tonight between 5:30 and 7:00 at the Baraga Rink. If you have kids that would like to play, but you cannot attend the sign-up session, email lacyhollon@yahoo.com, or call 395-7189. All kids who have basic skating skills are welcome. The KBHA has some equipment available to loan out, and can also help facilitate used equipment transactions. Referees and board members are also needed.

The Calumet Hockey Association will hold an in-person registration session between 6:00 and 7:00 at the Colosseum. Online registration is preferred – click here for details – but, if you can’t register online, please attend tonight’s session. The deadline for online registration is October 9th.
