High School
In high school volleyball last night…
– Houghton claimed the Copper Spike for the fifth straight year, with a 3-0 victory over Hancock.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell got past Jeffers 3-2 (25-11, 25-16, 22-25, 22-25, 15-4)
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City came from two sets down to edge Watersmeet 3-2.
– L’Anse edged West Iron County 3-2.
– Baraga v Bessemer – not reported.
– Ewen-Trout Creek downed Wakefield-Marenisco 3-1.

In high school football tonight…
– Calumet will try to close out a perfect regular season at L’Anse. Our pregame coverage will begin at 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
– Hancock will visit Houghton for the Copper Bowl game. Our pregame coverage will start at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com. The Houghton boosters will hold a tailgate celebration featuring Baby E’s barbecue beginning at 5:30.
– The Lake Linden-Hubbell game at Manistique has been canceled because the Emeralds could not complete their season. Instead, the Lakes will host Gladstone tomorrow.

Ontonagon will close its season against Atlanta tomorrow, in a game that will be played at Superior Central.

The U.P. high school cross country finals will be run tomorrow at Munising.

The Jeffers High School athletic department will hold a fundraiser tomorrow. The Mistletoe Market craft and vendor show will run from 9:00 until 3:00 at the school. Lunch will also be available.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University volleyball team is in Olivet for the Albion-Olivet Invitational. The Lions will face Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Denison University today.

The Finlandia men’s and women’s soccer teams will play at Bethany Lutheran College tomorrow.

The Lions football team will entertain Trine University tomorrow. Pregame coverage will begin at 12:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Finlandia women’s and men’s hockey teams will hold their blue and white scrimmages tomorrow during a benefit spaghetti dinner at the Houghton County Arena. The dinner, along with a bake sale and silent auction, will run from 3:00 until 7:00. Money raised will assist Dale Niemi with medical expenses.

MTU
The Michigan Tech soccer team plays at Saginaw Valley State today at noon.

The MTU volleyball team entertains Lake Superior State tonight at 7:00.

The Tech football team plays at Ashland tomorrow afternoon.

The Huskies hockey team has the weekend off.

NMU
The Northern Michigan University football team hosts Lawrence Tech tomorrow.

The NMU hockey team skates at Saint Cloud State tonight and tomorrow night.

MLB
The Boston Red Sox advanced to the World Series by defeating the Houston Astros 4-1 last night. The Sox won the American League Championship Series four games to one.

The Milwaukee Brewers and the Los Angeles Dodgers resume the National League Championship Series tonight in Milwaukee. The Dodgers lead that set three games to two.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons visit the Chicago Bulls tomorrow night.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings lost 3-1 to the Tampa Bay Lightning last night. Luke Glendening scored Detroit’s only goal. Jimmy Howard made 28 saves. With seven straight losses, this is the worst season-opening run in team history. The Wings will face the Panthers in Florida tomorrow night. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
In last night’s NFL game, the Denver Broncos routed the Arizona Cardinals 45-10.

LSPR
This year’s Lake Superior Performance Rally will begin this afternoon, and end tomorrow afternoon in downtown Houghton. See the cars at the parc exposes today at 2:00 at the Country Inn and Suites, or tomorrow morning at 9:00 at L’Anse Waterfront Park. The LSPR wraps up the Rally America tour, and will determine the this year’s champion.
