High School
In girls high school basketball last night…
– Houghton’s undefeated season continued with a 51-24 victory over Hancock. The Bulldogs had only six players available for the game. They held the Gremlins at bay through a low-scoring first half, and trailed 14-11 at the break. Houghton broke the game open with 25 points in the third quarter. Cara Monette led a balanced attack with 13 points for the Gremlins. Maija Sebbas of the Bulldogs led all scorers with 17 points.
– Calumet downed Chassell 58-33.
– Jeffers defeated Lake Linden-Hubbell 67-41.
– Baraga stopped Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 50-33.
– L’Anse edged Ontonagon 54-49.

In boys high school basketball last night…
– Baraga lost to Wakefield-Marenisco 67-39.

The Finlandia University women’s hockey team skates at Northland College tonight.

The Finlandia University men’s soccer team has added a new recruit. Zachary Wichman from Almont, Michigan, was a Division Three All-State Honorable Mention as a senior.

Monroe

MTU
Kyle Monroe of the Michigan Tech men’s basketball team has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Player of the Week. Monroe scored 58 points in the Huskies’ victories over Northwood and Lake Superior State last week.

Jackson

NBA
The Detroit Pistons’ three-game winning streak ended with a 109-104 loss to the Sacramento Kings last night. The difference was in the reserves – the Kings’ bench outscored the Pistons’ bench 52-30. Reggie Jackson led Detroit with 18 points. The Pistons entertain the New Orleans Pelicans tonight.

Larkin

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings skate at Boston tonight. Faceoff is at 7:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Drew Miller cleared waivers yesterday, and was assigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins. His stay in Grand Rapids was a short one, though. Dylan Larkin was placed on short-term injured reserve because of an upper body injury suffered in Sunday’s loss, so Miller was called back to fill in.

The Detroit Lions will have a player at the Pro Bowl, after all. Placekicker Matt Prater has been named to the NFC team. He replaces Atlanta Falcons kicker Matt Bryant, who is unavailable this Sunday as his team prepares for the Super Bowl. Green Bay Packers tackle David Bakhtiari has also been added to the Pro Bowl roster. He replaces Philadelphia Eagles tackle Jason Peters, who is injured.
