In high school girls basketball last night…
– Houghton outscored Calumet 13-2 in the third quarter, and remained unbeaten with a 56-40 victory over the Copper Kings. The Gremlins took advantage of a balanced offensive effort – Cara Monette and Madison Dillinger each had 11 points, and Sloane Zenner added 10. Calumet’s Hailey Wickstrom led all scorers with 17.
– Hancock outscored Ontonagon 49-37. Taylor Sebbas scored 25 for the Bulldogs.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell overpowered Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 49-33.
– Baraga smothered Republic-Michigamme 68-23.
– Ewen-Trout Creek shut down Wakefield-Marenisco 57-32.

In boys high school basketball last night…
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City defeated Wakefield-Marenisco 42-34.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell powered past Watersmeet 68-25.

Herbert

NMU
A Northern Michigan University football player has died. 20-year-old Anthony Herbert of Lapeer was the team’s starting left guard this season, and had received Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference academic team honors. He collapsed in his dorm around 8:00 yesterday morning. Friends said Herbert appeared to be in good health at breakfast and during an early-morning workout. An autopsy will be conducted.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings host the Boston Bruins tonight. Our pregame coverage will begin around 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons will host the Atlanta Hawks tonight.

MLB
The Detroit Tigers have announced their Spring Training broadcast schedule. The first game will air on February 24th from Lakeland, Florida. You’ll hear Tigers’ games again this summer on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Our high school hockey coverage continues tomorrow night, when Hancock entertains Negaunee. Our broadcast will begin around 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

The NFL Conference Championships will be decided Sunday. The Packers face the Falcons in the NFC title game at 3:05. The Patriots take on the Steelers in the AFC title match at 6:40. Pregame coverage will begin at 2:00 on the voice of the NFL playoffs in the Copper Country, AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
