MLB
The Detroit Tigers’ offense went back to sleep last night, in a 5-1 loss to the Oakland Athletics. Detroit hitters managed only four singles off Oakland starter Rich Hill over seven innings. Tigers’ starter Mike Pelfrey gave up five runs over 6-2/3rds innings, and fell to 0-4 on the season. Detroit’s only run came in the ninth inning, when Victor Martinez doubled home Ian Kinsler. The Tigers host Oakland again tonight. Justin Verlander will start against Sonny Gray. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Detroit starter Shane Greene hasn’t been placed on the disabled list, but manager Brad Ausmus says it’s unlikely he’ll be able to make his next scheduled start Friday night. Greene left his last start when a blister on his pitching hand ripped open. Matt Boyd or prospect Michael Fulmer are likely replacements. The Tigers brought pitcher Daniel Norris off the disabled list yesterday, and assigned him to Toledo. Detroit also brought up pitcher Buck Farmer to help in the bullpen. Catcher James McCann began a rehab assignment with the Mud Hens last night. He’s recovering from a sprained ankle.

The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Chicago Cubs 4-3 last night. Jimmy Nelson pitched four shutout innings for Milwaukee, but gave up a run in the fifth, and was charged with two more when two runners he allowed on base scored after he left the game in the sixth. Ryan Braun drove in two of Milwaukee’s runs with a double in the eighth. That series continues in Chicago tonight. Taylor Jungmann will pitch against Jake Arrieta, who threw a no-hitter in his last outing against the Reds.

NBA
In playoff action last night, the Raptors edged the Pacers 102-99. The Hawks smothered the Celtics 110-83. Both of the winners lead their series 3-2.
