Riley Greene’s first major league home run gave the Tigers a 4-3 walk-off win against the Royals yesterday. Greene’s shot came just two pitches after Victor Reyes’ solo shot had tied the contest. Starter Beau Brieske gave up three runs over six innings. Alex Lange, Andrew Chafin and Joe Jiménez each turned in an inning of hitless relief, with Jiménez claiming the win.
The Tigers host the Royals again this afternoon. Tarik Skubal will start against Brady Singer. Coverage will begin at 11:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Yet another Tigers’ starting pitcher has landed on the disabled list. Rony Garcia reported shoulder discomfort during a workout yesterday. Manager A.J. Hinch said an MRI showed no structural damage, just some inflammation. Prospect Garrett Hill has been called up from Toledo, and will make his major league debut in one of tomorrow’s doubleheader games. Alex Faedo will be brought back as the extra roster player to start the other contest.
The Brewers fell 7-4 to the Pirates yesterday. Aaron Ashby was charged with four runs before leaving in the fourth inning, and took the loss. Christian Yelich and Kolton Wong homered.
The Brewers play in Pittsburgh again this afternoon. Brandon Woodruff will pitch against José Quintana.
