MLB – Tigers Fall at Houston
Miguel Cabrera’s return to the Detroit lineup wasn’t enough to spark the Tigers’ offense last night, as they lost to the Houston Astros 5-1. Cabrera struck out twice in his first game back after missing six weeks with a strained thigh muscle. Victor Martinez gave Detroit an early lead with an RBI single in the fourth inning, but Alfredo Simon gave up three runs in the fifth, and was charged with another as he left the game in the sixth, and took the loss.

The Tigers continue that set at Houston tonight. Justin Verlander will start against Collin McHugh. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

After two rehab starts with Single-A Lakeland, pitcher Kyle Lobstein will make his next appearance with the Toledo Mud Hens. Lobstein has missed much of the season with a sore shoulder. He’s expected to start Toledo’s game today.

Former Tigers’ closer Jose Valverde has been suspended for 80 games, after he tested positive for a banned steroid. Valverde has not pitched in the major leagues this season, and was released by the Washington Nationals last month. The ban will take effect when – and, if – another team signs him.

Wily Peralta turned in seven shutout innings, as the Milwaukee Brewers shut down the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 last night. Khris Davis homered.

The Brewers host the Phillies again tonight. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against Jerome Williams.
