In girls high school regional championship basketball games last night…
• In Division Four, Baraga defeated Carney Nadeau 61-47. The Vikings improve to 22-1 on the season. They will play Pickford in the state quarterfinals Tuesday. The Michigan High School Athletic Association has not announced a location for the game.
• In Division Three, Calumet’s season ended with a 53-39 loss to unbeaten Glen Lake. The Copper Kings close their campaign with a fine record of 20-3.
In boys district basketball finals tonight…
• In Division Four, District 98, Lake Linden-Hubbell plays at L’Anse at 6:00.
• In Division Four, District 97, Wakefield-Marenisco hosts Ewen-Trout Creek at 7:00 Eastern Time.
• In Division Three, Jeffers plays at Westwood at 6:00.
The Calumet High School hockey team will face Midland Dow this afternoon at 1:30 in the Division Three state semifinals at Plymouth. Coverage will begin at 1:10 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3. The winner will face either Warren de la Salle or Orchard Lake Saint Mary’s for the championship tomorrow. If Calumet advances, our coverage will begin at 2:45 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.

College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team will host Bemidji State in their Central Collegiate Hockey Association semifinal game tomorrow at 6:07 at the SDC. Northern Michigan will play its semifinal game at Minnesota State. The winners will meet for the Mason Cup in a one-game final next weekend.
GLHL
Both the Portage Lake Pioneers and the Calumet Wolverines wrap up their Great Lakes Hockey League regular seasons this weekend…
• The Pioneers visit the Marquette Mutineers tonight, then host the Mosinee Papermakers tomorrow at 7:30, and the De Pere Deacons Sunday at 1:00.
• The Wolverines entertain the Papermakers tonight at 7:30, and the Deacons tomorrow at 7:30.
Junior Hockey
The Copper Country Junior Hockey Association is hosting the 14U AA State Tournament this weekend. There are eight teams in the tournament including the Portage Lake Flyers, who will open against the Flint Junior Firebirds at noon, and then play Marquette at 6:00. NHL
The Detroit Red Wings couldn’t hold an early lead, and lost to the Minnesota Wild 6-5 in a shootout last night. In a game that was marred by a huge fight at the end of regulation, Jakub Vrana and Lucas Raymond each scored twice. Alex Nedeljkovic made 32 saves.
The Wings skate at Calgary tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons visit the Boston Celtics tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:05 on 99.3 The Lift.
MLB
Major League Baseball players and owners finally worked out a tentative new contract yesterday. The owners’ lockout ended at 7:00 last evening. Players will report to spring training this weekend. The Tigers will play their first Grapefruit League game a week from today. Despite the threats owners made to shorten the regular season, Opening Day will take place one week late. To accommodate a full 162-game schedule, with the regular season extended by three days, and some doubleheaders will be added. Teams can also resume negotiations with free agents immediately.
Cross Country Skiing
The UP Health System Great Bear Chase will be held tomorrow at the Swedetown Trails. The event will include 50k, 25k and 10k classic and freestyle races, along with a 50k skiathlon. The Junior Bear Chase will be held this evening. See full details here.
The CLK Rotary Club will hold its annual pre-race spaghetti dinner today between 4:00 and 8:00 at the Siskiwit Hall in Calumet. The public is welcome.
