NHL
The Detroit Red Wings opened a 3-0 lead, then held on to defeat the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 last night. Luke Glendening gave Detroit what seemed to be a comfortable margin when he scored with three minutes left in the game. The Sabres responded with a goal 10 seconds later, and another a minute after that, to turn the contest into a cliffhanger. Jimmy Howard made 18 saves to get the win. Philadelphia also won last night, so the Flyers and Wings remain tied in the standings for the final wild card playoff position in the NHL Eastern Conference, although Philly has one more game left to play than Detroit. Detroit is now just a point behind Boston for third place in the Atlantic Division. The Wings skate at Montreal tonight. Face-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons entertain Oklahoma City tonight.

MLB
In spring training baseball last night, the Detroit Tigers lost 3-2 to the New York Yankees. Buck Farmer started, and tossed three scoreless innings. Kyle Ryan followed with two shutout frames. Ian Kinsler and Justin Upton homered. The Tigers face the Blue Jays this afternoon. Hear the game at 1:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Bruce Rondon BAfter an inconsistent spring, reliever Bruce Rondon will start this season at Toledo. The Tigers assigned him there yesterday. They also released a couple of former major-leaguers who had been trying to catch on – pitcher Bobby Parnell and infielder Casey McGehee. Both can now check to see if other teams are interested in them. They could also re-sign minor-league deals with Detroit.

The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Cincinnati Reds 9-8 last night. Starter Chase Anderson gave up four runs over four innings. The Brewers face the Reds again this afternoon.

NFL
The Green Bay Packers have signed free agent tight end Jared Cook to a one-year deal. He’s played the past three seasons for the Rams.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University baseball team has signed two new players for the 2017 season. Zachary Hart and Austin Albrecht are seniors at Alma Center Lincoln High School in Wisconsin, where they played for Evan Brandt, who is now the Lions’ assistant baseball coach.

The Calumet Wolverines and the Portage Lake Pioneers resolve the Gibson Cup series tonight, and then open play in the Great Lakes Hockey League Tournament in De Pere on Friday. Hear their games on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
