Ghormley, Wickstrom Named to All-Keweenaw Classic Team – Tuesday Sports Wrap

Michigan Tech volleyball player Olivia Ghormley has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Player of the Week. Ghormley led the Huskies to a 3-1 record at the Keweenaw Classic last week.

Ghormley was also named to the All Keweenaw Classic team. So was Hailey Wickstrom, the former Calumet standout who now plays for Northern Michigan University.

The strong opening game by the Michigan Tech football team earned the Huskies a handful of votes in the latest American Football Coaches Association poll. On Saturday, Tech upended Hillsdale College, which opened the season at 19th in the poll. Five GLIAC teams received votes this week, with Ferris State ranking second, Grand Valley 10th, and Ashland and Saginaw Valley State also earning honorable mention status.

The Detroit Tigers had yesterday off, and will host the New York Yankees tonight. Edwin Jackson will pitch against Chad Green. Pregame coverage begins at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift. 

The Milwaukee Brewers clobbered the Miami Marlins 8-3 to earn their fourth straight win last night. Yasmani Grandal homered. Trent Grisham had five hits.

The Brewers visit the Marlins again tonight. Chase Anderson will start against Elieser Hernandez.

NFL

In the NFL last night, the New Orleans Saints edged the Houston Texans 30-28. The Oakland Raiders outscored the Denver Broncos 24-16.
