Gervais Named LL-H Football Coach

High School

Former Lake Linden-Hubbell athlete Brett Gervais has been named the school’s new head football coach. Gervais graduated in 2011, and went on to play four years as a defensive back at Michigan Tech. While with the Huskies, he was named to the All-GLIAC team, and received Division II All-American and Academic All-American honors. Gervais has been an assistant coach for the Lakes for the past three years.

Gervais will oversee the school’s transition to eight-man football, after several seasons as one of the smallest 11-man programs in the state. He succeeds longtime coach Andy Crouch.

Finlandia

The Finlandia University softball team has added a new player. Jessica Ramirez is transferring in from the junior college system in California.

XFL

The XFL has filed for bankruptcy. The return of the renegade spring league nearly 20 years after its first failed season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. When it suspended play in early March, officials promised the league would be back in 2021. The bankruptcy filing yesterday makes that unlikely. All of the league’s employees have been laid off.
