MLB

The Tigers cruised past the Guardians 4-1 yesterday. Spencer Torkelson’s two-run homer in the top of the first inning was all Detroit needed. Kerry Carpenter added a solo shot later in the game. Eduardo Rodriguez pitched into the seventh, and gave up a run on four hits.

After taking three of four from Cleveland, the Tigers host the Cubs tonight. Alex Faedo will start against Javier Assad. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit prospect Parker Meadows is expected to make his major league debut tonight. The announcement from the team yesterday did not indicate who will be removed from the roster to make room. Parker is the brother of Tigers outfielder Austin Meadows, who has been sidelined most of the season because of anxiety issues.

The Brewers completed a weekend sweep of the Rangers, with a 6-2 victory yesterday. Adrian Houser gave up a run over five innings, allowing six hits and striking out seven. Tyrone Taylor had two hits, and drove in three runs. Former Tiger Max Scherzer started for Texas, and walked in two runs. He also moved into 11th place on the all-time career strikeout list.

The Brewers have today off, and entertain the Twins tomorrow. Wade Miley will start against Bailey Ober.

The Cubs won and the Reds lost, so Milwaukee’s lead in the National League Central Division stands at three games over Chicago, and four over Cincinnati.

Twilight League

Garnet Garage claimed the Twilight Baseball League tournament championship yesterday, with a 4-1 victory over Northern Driveline. In a pitchers duel at the Houghton field, each team collected just three hits. Northern Driveline took an early lead, when Alex Nordstrom scored on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Garnet Garage batted through the lineup in the third inning, with Gab Carlson and Will Romano each driving in two runs. Chris Saari earned the win on the mound.

Garnet Garage defeated Craig Heinonen Coldwell Banker in yesterday’s first semifinal. Northern Driveline dispatched Houghton Building Supply-Stanton in the other.

With the win, Garnet Garage completed an almost-perfect season, with their only loss a 1-0 game against Houghton Building Supply-Stanton on July 24th.
