In Copper Country Twilight Baseball League play last evening…
• Garnet Garage defeated Craig Heinonen Coldwell Banker 4-0.
The victory clinched the regular-season championship for Garnet Garage, which will hold the top seed in next week’s league tournament. Houghton Building Supply-Stanton and Craig Heinonen Coldwell Banker will open with a play-in contest Tuesday night. The semifinals and championship game will be staged a week from Sunday. We’ll broadcast the championship match on KBear 102.3.

Wenceel Pérez led off the game with a home run, and the Tigers cruised to a 6-2 victory over the Mariners last night. Jake Rogers also homered. Matt Vierling had three hits. Tarik Skubal struck out nine over seven innings. He gave up just three hits – one was a two-run homer to Cal Raleigh. A Mariners threat against Jason Foley in the eighth inning ended when Parker Meadows made a leaping grab of a long Raleigh fly ball at the center field wall.
The Tigers wrap up that series at Seattle tonight. Bryan Woo will start for the Mariners. The Tigers are expected to employ another bullpen night. Coverage will begin at 9:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers pounded out 16 hits in an 8-5 victory over the Braves last evening. Jackson Chourio, Rhys Hoskins, Joey Ortiz and Blake Perkins each had three hits. Freddy Peralta struggled through five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, but got the win.
The Brewers conclude that set at Atlanta this afternoon. Frankie Montas will start against Charlie Morton.
NFL
The Lions begin their preseason schedule tonight when they visit the Giants. Head coach Dan Campbell noted earlier this week that few established veterans will see the field, including quarterback Jared Goff.
The Packers open their exhibition campaign Saturday afternoon at Cleveland.
College
Michigan Tech has named a new cross country/track and field assistant coach. Luke Moore steps in after spending the past two years as a graduate assistant coach working primarily with the sprinters. He was a captain of the Michigan Tech cross country/track and field teams before graduating in 2022.
