MLB
Rookie starter Michael Fulmer turned in another gem last night, as the Detroit Tigers blanked the Los Angeles Angels 3-0. Fulmer’s attempt at a no-hitter was broken up when C.J. Cron singled with two outs in the seventh. He left the game with two runners on and two outs in the eighth. Francisco Rodriguez snuffed that threat, and pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 15th consecutive save. Fulmer gave up just two hits, and struck out eight. The Tigers scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and ninth to salvage one win from their three-game series on the coast.
The Tigers come home to play one game against the New York Yankees this evening. It’s a make-up of the game that was weathered out on April 10th. Matt Boyd will pitch against Michael Pineda. Hear the first pitch at 7:40 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
Struggling Tigers’ starter Anibal Sanchez has been demoted. Manager Brad Ausmus says Sanchez will pitch out of the bullpen. Ausmus did not say who’ll replace Sanchez in the rotation. Detroit also placed reliever Warwick Saupold on the disabled list because of a groin strain. Former Mets’ closer Bobby Parnell has been brought up from Toledo.
Zach Davies pitched eight scoreless innings, as the Milwaukee Brewers got past the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 yesterday afternoon. The Cards’ only run came when Brandon Moss homered off Jeremy Jeffress in the ninth. Martin Maldonado went deep for Milwaukee.
The Brewers open a four-game set at Philadelphia tonight. Chase Anderson will pitch against Jerad Eickhoff.
