Finlandia
The Finlandia University volleyball team fell 3-1 to Wisconsin-Superior last night. The Lions won the first set 25-23, before giving up three straight to the Yellowjackets, 21-25, 10-25, 20-25. Kaisa Holmstrom led Finlandia with 11 kills, and Jessie Diaz had 30 digs.
Both Finlandia soccer teams play at Eureka College in Illinois this afternoon.
MTU
The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team has added a pair of exhibition games to its schedule. The Huskies will entertain St. Norbert on October 27th, and visit Eastern Michigan University on November 1st.
MLB
The Detroit Tigers blasted four home runs on the way to a 10-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox last night. Jeimer Candelario hit a lead-off homer in the first inning. Mikie Mahtook, Ronny Rodriguez and JaCoby Jones went deep as the Tigers scored six runs in the fourth inning. Jordan Zimmermann survived two rain delays to pitch five shutout innings. Both Chicago runs came in the seventh, off Daniel Stumpf.
The Tigers have today off, and open a series at Cleveland tomorrow night. Daniel Norris will start against Austin Gomber. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Chicago Cubs 6-4 last evening. Jhoulys Chacín struggled. He allowed four runs in the fourth inning, and was charged with another as he left the game in the fifth. Curtis Granderson homered for Milwaukee.
The Brewers also have today off, and host the San Francisco Giants tomorrow evening. Chase Anderson will pitch against Derek Holland.
NFL

The Detroit Lions claimed defensive end Romeo Okwara off waivers from the New York Giants yesterday. To make room on the roster, they cut Anthony Zettel, who was second on the team in sacks last season. Of the 16 players who saw time on the defensive line last year, only two remain with the team.
