High School

In high school football last night…
• The Calumet game at West Iron County was canceled. The Wykons discontinued their season because of low numbers. The contest will go into the books as a forfeit win for the Copper Kings.
• Hancock earned its first win of the season by defeating Gwinn 33-18.
• L’Anse lost 55-0 at Iron Mountain.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell cruised past Stephenson 44-14.
• Ontonagon fell to North Central 67-0.

Today…
• Houghton welcomes Bark River-Harris. Coverage begins at 1:10 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.

In volleyball last night…
• Hancock swept Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 3-0 (25-8, 25-15, 25-12).

College Football

The Michigan Tech football team visits Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas today.

Northern Michigan plays at Davenport today.

The Finlandia University football team visits Iowa Wesleyan today.

College Soccer

The Tech soccer team battled Saginaw Valley State to a 0-0 draw last night. Gracie Vanlangevelde earned her third shutout of the season in net. The Huskies host Ferris State tomorrow at noon.

The Finlandia men’s soccer team entertains Ripon College today at noon. 

The Finlandia women’s team plays at Madison College today, and at Ripon tomorrow.

College Volleyball

The Tech volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-19) to Ferris State yesterday. The Huskies entertain Lake Superior State this afternoon at 2.

At the Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament at Eau Claire yesterday, the Finlandia volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-23) to Saint Benedict. The Lions will face Wisconsin-Stout and Saint Catherine today.

MLB

Victory Reyes’ sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning drove home Ryan Kreidler with the winning run, as the Tigers edged the White Sox 3-2 last night. Matt Manning sparkled, throwing seven shutout innings, and allowing just three hits. He left with a 2-0 lead, thanks to a Spencer Torkelson RBI single in the first, and a Jonathan Schoop home run in the sixth. Joe Jiménez coughed up two runs in the eighth. Alex Lange got the win in relief by striking out the side in the top of the 10th.

The Tigers host the Sox again tonight. Eduardo Rodriguez will start against Johnny Cueto. Coverage will begin at 5:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Garrett Mitchell singled home Hunter Renfroe in the bottom of the ninth to give the Brewers a 7-6 victory over the Yankees last evening. Mitchell’s grounder to center field came after Josh Donaldson’s solo homer off Taylor Rogers had given New York the lead in the top of the inning. Willy Adames homered, as Milwaukee overcame an early five-run deficit.

The Brewers entertain the Yankees again this evening. Brandon Woodruff will start against Jameson Taillon.

NFL

Tomorrow…
• The Lions host the Commanders. Detroit center Frank Ragnow will miss the game because of injury. Running back D’Andre Swift is expected to play, despite a gimpy ankle. Kickoff is at 1 on 99.3 The Lift.
• The Packers entertain the Bears in the Sunday night game.
