High School

In high school volleyball last night…

  • Baraga defeated Chassell 3-2 (25-18, 3-25, 16-25, 25-23, 14-16). For the Panthers, Oriana Olson had 11 kills, 10 digs and 1 solo block, Dusty Lippold had 6 kills and 12 digs, Elli Kuntze had 4 kills and 18 digs,  Sylvia Aho had 20 assists, and Megan Holombo had 3 aces, 15 digs and 2 assists.

Tonight…

  • Houghton entertains Westwood. Coverage will begin around 6:10 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf. After the Varsity game fans can meet the players and coaches. Posters will be provided so you can get autographs. Fans are encouraged to wear orange and black.

Lake Linden-Hubbell High School has introduced this year’s Athletic Hall of Fame class. It includes…

  • Ken Anderson, who excelled in football and track and field in the late 1960s.
  • Dean Londo, the first girls basketball coach in school history, who led the team from 1973 to 1996.
  • Kenn Clouthier, who won seven varsity letters in football, basketball and track and field in the late 1970s.
  • Andy Crouch, who led the 1991 Lakes football team to the state finals, and also excelled in basketball and track. He became an assistant coach with the football team in 1997, then served as head coach from 2002 to 2019.
  • Jaimie Koskela, a leader of the 1992 state championship football team who also excelled in basketball. He returned to Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 2000 as a teacher and coach.

College Soccer

The Northern Michigan University men’s soccer team entertains Lewis University this afternoon.

The Northern women’s soccer team faces Cedarville University, in a game that will be played at Midland.

College Volleyball

The NMU volleyball team hosts Findlay today in the first game of the U.P. Open.

MLB

The Tigers scored six runs in the first inning, and cruised past the Rockies 7-4 last night. Riley Greene and Trey Sweeney homered. Kerry Carpenter had four hits. Starter Casey Mize struggled, allowing a run in the second inning, and leaving as Colorado scored three in the fifth.

Detroit has won five of their last six games, and now trails Minnesota by three games in the race for the final American League wild card playoff berth.

The Tigers entertain the Rockies again this afternoon. Tarik Skubal will start against Ryan Feltner. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers lost ugly to the Giants 13-2 last evening. Colin Rea gave up 10 runs over four innings.

The Brewers visit the Giants again tonight. Frankie Montas will pitch against Hayden Birdsong.

NFL

In tonight’s NFL contest, the Bills visit the Dolphins. Kickoff is at 8:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
