The Detroit Tigers broke out the home run bats, and pounded the Houston Astros 8-2 last night. Wilson Ramos homered twice, and Akil Baddoo, Nomar Mazara and Renato Núñez also went deep. Matthew Boyd pitched into the seventh inning, and gave up a run on six hits.
The Tigers conclude that series at Houston tonight. Michael Fulmer will make his first start of the season against Lance McCullers Jr. Coverage begins at 6:50 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Tigers have elevated infielder Zack Short to their taxi squad. He takes the place of Núñez, who was added to the roster to fill in for the injured Miguel Cabrera.
The Milwaukee Brewers lost 3-2 to the Chicago Cubs last evening. Willson Contreras’ two-run homer off Brent Suter in the eighth inning brought the Cubs from behind. Starter Brandon Woodruff allowed a run on three hits over six innings.
The Brewers host the Cubs again this afternoon. Corbin Burnes will start against Jake Arrieta.
Milwaukee center fielder Lorenzo Cain left the game with a sore left quad. He’ll be evaluated today.
