Finlandia
The Finlandia University women’s soccer team broke its 26-game winless streak yesterday, with an 11-0 victory over an understaffed Silver Lake College squad. Kelsi McDermid set a school record with four goals and two assists. Jennifer Hernandez scored twice. The Lions outshot the Lakers 56-1, with 28 of those shots on goal. Silver Lake had only nine fielders available for the game.

MLB
Anibal Sanchez turned in another good performance last night, but the Detroit Tigers lost to the Kansas City Royals 2-1. Sanchez allowed two runs on seven hits, and struck out six over six innings. Ian Kinsler drove in Detroit’s only run.

The Tigers play at Kansas City again tonight. Jordan Zimmermann will pitch against Jason Hammel. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers scored four times in the first inning, and went on to edge the Cincinnati Reds 7-6 last night. Domingo Santana’s three-run homer was the big blow of the opening inning. Despite suffering from a bad cold, Zach Davies started. He left the game in the fifth inning, and was charged with three runs. Josh Hader got the win in relief, and Cory Knebel earned his 38th save.

The Brewers continue that home set against the Reds this evening. Brandon Woodruff will start against Homer Bailey.

The Cubs lost, so they remain five games ahead of the Brewers with five games remaining. Any Chicago win or Milwaukee loss clinches the National League Central Division title for the Cubs. The Rockies won, so Milwaukee remains a game and a half behind Colorado in the race for the second National League wild card playoff berth.
