At the boys National Invitational Hockey Tournament yesterday…
• The Michigan Juniors defeated the Wisconsin Juniors 5-2. Calumet’s Tom Erkilla had a goal and an assist. Jackson Rilei also plays on that team. The Juniors are 1-1 in pool play, and face the Minnesota Seniors this morning.
• The Michigan Seniors fell to the Minnesota Juniors 4-1 yesterday. Calumet’s Dean Loukus and Hancock’s Austin Salani play on that team. The Seniors are also 1-1 in pool play, and take on the Wisconsin Seniors this afternoon.

College Softball

The Finlandia University softball team split its doubleheader against Bay College yesterday. The Lions dropped the first game 10-0, but held off the Norse to win the nightcap 8-7. Finlandia got just two hits in the opener. They spotted the Norse an early lead in the second contest, but a four-run fifth inning helped them build an 8-4 lead heading into the final frame. Bay scored three in the top of the seventh, but Kyndall Coffman struck out Bonnie Cortinas to end the game.

The Lions close their regular season with a doubleheader at Bay College tomorrow afternoon.

College Baseball

The Finlandia baseball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader at Wisconsin-Oshkosh yesterday, 8-5 and 24-3. Jacob Mead opened the first game with a home run for the Lions. Joe Galindo homered in the nightcap.

The Lions stay in Oshkosh for doubleheaders this afternoon and tomorrow.

College Soccer

The Michigan Tech soccer team concluded its regular season with a 1-0 victory over Wisconsin-Parkside yesterday. Haley Ruiter scored the only goal of the game, and Erika Gabriel stopped a penalty kick, and earned her fourth shutout of the season in net.

The Huskies will open the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Tuesday. Tournament match-ups have not yet been determined.

The Finlandia men’s soccer team has introduced another recruit. Koby Armstrong was a four-year starter at Shepherd High School.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings entertain the Stars tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Wings will finish the season without team captain Dylan Larkin. He suffered an upper body injury in Tuesday’s contest. Team officials haven’t specified what the injury is, but have said it’s serious enough that it may require surgery. Detroit has seven games remaining in the season.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons visit the Indiana Pacers tonight.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers lost to the Kansas City Royals 6-2 last evening. Casey Mize struggled, giving up all six runs on seven hits before leaving in the fifth inning. Robbie Grossman’s two-run homer accounted for all of Detroit’s scoring.

The Tigers host the Royals again this afternoon. Matthew Boyd will pitch against Brady Singer. Coverage will begin at 12:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Miguel Cabrera took batting practice yesterday, and is expected to return from the injured list today or tomorrow.

The Chicago Cubs routed the Milwaukee Brewers 15-2 yesterday. Starter Brett Anderson retired the first batter, then gave up three hits before leaving the game with a tight hamstring. He’ll undergo an MRI today. The onslaught continued against Josh Lindblom, as the Cubs scored 10 times in the first two innings. Kolton Wong homered in his return from the injured list, and Billy McKinney also hit one out.

The Brewers play in Chicago again this afternoon. Freddy Peralta will start against Adbert Alzolay.
