College Soccer
The Finlandia University women’s soccer team edged North Central University 1-0 yesterday afternoon. Samon Anderson-Oliver scored the game’s only goal. Aspen Wallin made 14 saves, and set a new Finlandia record by completing her 438th consecutive minute without allowing a goal. Addie Budzinski played in her 60th game as a Lion – that also set a new team record.
The Finlandia men’s soccer team lost to North Central 2-1 yesterday. Chinedu Ikem netted the Lions’ only goal.
The Finlandia men’s team entertains Northland College tonight at 7.
College Hockey
Maxx Fredrickson has been hired as the Director of Hockey Operations at Michigan Tech. Fredrickson has been the video coordinator over the past three seasons in a student role. He played high school hockey for Calumet, and currently skates for the Calumet Wolverines.
MLB
The Tigers lost their fourth straight game yesterday, falling to the Astros 2-1. Joey Wentz gave up both Houston runs over four innings, and took the loss. Javier Báez homered for Detroit. Riley Green’s 424-foot blast that would have given Detroit the lead in the eighth inning was caught just inside the fence in the deepest part of center field.
The Tigers have today off, and host the White Sox tomorrow night. Matt Manning will start against Lucas Giolito. Coverage will begin at 6:50 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers fell to the Cardinals 4-1 last night. The Crew pounded out 10 hits, but left 12 runners on base. Corbin Burnes gave up three runs over seven innings, and suffered the loss.
The Brewers also have today off, and entertain the Yankees tomorrow. Adrian Houser will start against Frankie Montas.
NFL
In tonight’s game, the Chargers visit the Chiefs. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.

Golf
There are two golf outings for good causes Saturday.
The annual Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home Golf Scramble will be held at the Calumet Golf Club. It’s an 18-hole, four-person event, with a shotgun start at 10:00. The $50.00 per person cost includes a meal. For registration and cart rental, call the Calumet Golf Club at 337-3911.
The Portage Lake Pioneers golf fundraiser will be played at Omer’s. It’s a two-person scramble, at a cost of $80 per team, plus cart rental, if desired. A shotgun start will take place at 10 a.m. Please text/call Cody at (906) 281-0685 if you would like to play.
