FinnU Soccer: Men Win, Women Fall – Monday Sports Wrap

High School
In high school volleyball tonight, Dollar Bay-Tamarack City travels to Ewen-Trout Creek.

In hockey, Team Copper Country defeated Shattuck St. Mary’s 5-4 on Saturday, and skated to a 1-1 tie with the Sabres yesterday. Team CC will begin defense of its national title at the split season qualifier tournament in Jackson this weekend. They need to win to advance to the state championships in March.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University men’s soccer team defeated Lakeland College 4-2 yesterday. Glodie Kangia, Moises Membreno and Junior Espino each had a goal and an assist. The Finlandia women’s team lost to the Muskies 4-1 yesterday.

MTU
The MTU soccer team lost 2-1 to Tiffin yesterday. Taylor Archibald scored the Huskies’ only goal.

 

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings entertain the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight. Because of NFL football on 99.3 The Lift, pregame coverage will start at 7:10 on KBear 102.3.

MLB
The Los Angeles Dodgers took a two games to none lead in the National League Championship Series with a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs yesterday. That set continues tomorrow in Chicago.

In the American League Series, the Houston Astros face the Yankees in New York tonight. Houston leads that set two games to none.

NFL
The Detroit defense took yesterday off, as the Lions lost to the New Orleans Saints 52-38. Matthew Stafford threw three touchdown passes, but also tossed three interceptions, and lost two fumbles.

Green Bay Packers lost more than just a 23-10 decision to the Minnesota Vikings. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers broke his collarbone early in the game, and could miss the rest of the season. Brett Hundley takes over as the starter.

In last night’s contest, Nick Novak’s field goal on the final play of the game lifted the Los Angeles Chargers to a 17-16 victory over the Oakland Raiders.

In tonight’s game, the Indianapolis Colts visit the Tennessee Titans.
