High School

In high school volleyball tonight…
• Hancock hosts Iron Mountain.
• Jeffers plays at Lake Linden-Hubbell.
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City welcomes Watersmeet.
• L’Anse travels to West Iron County.
• Baraga entertains Bessemer.
• Ewen-Trout Creek hosts Wakefield-Marenisco.

Instead of playing at L’Anse today, the Calumet junior varsity football team will host Marquette at 6:00 at Agassiz Field.

College Soccer

The Finlandia University men’s soccer team lost 11-0 to Wisconsin-Eau Claire last evening. The Lions were outshot 25-3 overall, and 15-2 in shots on goal.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings host the Calgary Flames tonight. Because of NFL football on 99.3 The Lift, Wings coverage will begin at 7:15 on KBear 102.3.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons lost their NBA opener to the Chicago Bulls last night, 94-88. Jerami Grant scored 24 for Detroit, and Saddiq Bey grabbed nine rebounds.

The Pistons will face the Bulls again Saturday night, in Chicago.

MLB

The Houston Astros pounded the Boston Red Sox 9-1 last night. The Astros lead the American League Championship Series 3-2. Game six will be played Friday in Houston.

The Atlanta Braves steamrolled the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-2, and opened up a 3-1 lead in the National League Championship Series. Game five will be played tonight in L.A.

The Milwaukee Brewers are making a coaching change. After struggling offensively this season, hitting coach Andy Haines has been fired. Assistant hitting coach Jacob Cruz hasn’t been officially released, but has been told he is free to pursue other options. The rest of Milwaukee’s coaching staff is expected to return next season.

NFL

In tonight’s NFL contest, the Cleveland Browns welcome the Denver Broncos. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.

Youth Hockey

The schedule is set for next week’s USA Hockey Officiating Seminars. The extra sessions have been added because of a severe shortage of officials at all levels. Leaders of the youth hockey organizations in the area caution that, if more officials aren’t found, some games will need to be canceled. If you’d like to help, sign up for next week’s sessions.

USA Hockey Officiating Seminar For Levels 1, 2, and 3
Where: Calumet Colosseum
When:
• Level 1 and First year officials – Classroom Sessions Monday and Tuesday, October 25th and 26th, at 6:00 pm in the Calumet Colosseum Ballroom. Sessions will end around 9:00 each night.
• Level 2 and 3 Classroom Session – Thursday, October 30 at 6:00 pm in the Calumet Colosseum Ballroom, ending around 9:30.
• Level 1 and 2 Ice Session – Monday, November 1 at 6:30 pm – skates, whistle, helmet mandatory. Done by 7:30 pm
Attendance at all sessions for your level is required by USA Hockey. A pen or pencil and paper to take notes will be helpful at the classroom session.
