FinnU Men’s Hoops Falls – Wednesday Sports Wrap

Finlandia

The Finlandia University men’s basketball team lost 117-85 to Wisconsin Lutheran last night. Five Lions scored in double figures, led by Dylan Underwood with 25 points. Joe Heininen added 16.

Underwood has been named the American Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. He scored 50 points in the Lions’ losses to Lakeland and Lawrence.

Katie Lundeen has been named the ACAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. She scored 36 points in the Lions’ win over Saint Mary Saturday, and set a school record by sinking 14 free throws.

The Lions women’s team plays at Lawrence University tonight.

Finlandia linebacker Taylor Bonetti has been named to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association second team for football.

GLIAC

The MTU volleyball team opens the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament tonight. The second-seeded Huskies will host seventh-seed Grand Valley State University at 6:00.

A dozen Michigan Tech football players have earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason honors. Offensive lineman Hayden Huttula and defensive lineman Nate LaJoie were both selected to the All-GLIAC First Team. Running back Jared Smith, wide receiver Jacob Wenzlick, defensive back Travis Tidwell, and quarterback/punter Will Ark were chosen for the Second Team. Offensive lineman Jeremy Bell, defensive back Braxton Blackwell, defensive lineman Xavier Ciardo, fullback Jordan Ferguson, wide receiver Ben Hartley, and defensive back Glacier Wallington received Honorable Mention votes.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings couldn’t hold an early lead, and lost to the Ottawa Senators 4-3 last night. Robby Fabri and Valterri Filppula scored in the first period, but the Senators took control with three goals in the middle stanza. Anthony Mantha added a goal in the closing minutes. Jonathan Bernier stopped 29 shots. The Wings visit the Columbus Blue Jackets tomorrow. Because of NFL football, coverage will begin at 6:40 on KBear 102.3.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons return to action tonight, when they visit the Chicago Bulls. Coverage starts at 7:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

Our high school hockey coverage begins Friday, when Jeffers entertains Cheboygan. Coverage will start at 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

The Finlandia women’s hockey team entertains Saint Norbert College Saturday afternoon. Coverage will start at 3:55 on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com.
