MLB
Alex Bregman’s home run in the 10th inning powered the American League to an 8-6 victory in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game last night. The Houston Astros’ third baseman was named the game’s Most Valuable Player. His homer was the 10th in the contest, which set a new record.
Tigers’ reliever Joe Jiménez entered the game in the fourth inning with a runner on base and two outs. He struck out the only man he faced. Milwaukee reliever Jeremy Jeffress pitched the sixth inning, and allowed a walk, but no runs. Teammate Josh Hader did not fare as well, giving up a three-run homer in the eighth inning. Christian Yelich homered for the National League. Lorenzo Cain was hitless in three plate appearances, and Final Vote winner Jesús Aguilar was hitless in two at-bats.
Hader also had to deal with a developing off the field controversy. A series of racist and anti-gay tweets that he sent as a teenager came to light. After the game, he apologized for the tweets, saying he was immature when he sent them, and they do not represent the person he is now.
Following the All-Star break, the Tigers open a home set against the Boston Red Sox on Friday. The Brewers will resume play at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday.
