FinnU Baseball Swept Again – Sunday Sports Wrap

College Baseball

The Finlandia University baseball team dropped two more games at Wisconsin-Eau Claire Saturday, 3-0 and 5-3. The Lions were held to six hits in each contest. In the opener, Eastyn Culp and Joe Galindo each doubled, and Jacob Mead had a triple. In the second game, Marc Robles singled, and drew three walks.

College Softball

The Finlandia softball team will host Northland College for a doubleheader today. Coverage will begin at 1:40 on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com.

College Soccer

The Michigan Tech soccer team will wrap up its regular season at home against Purdue Northwest today at noon.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings’ three-game winning streak ended with a 4-0 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks Saturday night. Jonathan Bernier made 23 saves, and took the loss.

The Wings visit the Dallas Stars tomorrow night. Coverage begins at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons fell to the Washington Wizards 121-100 Saturday evening. Isaiah Stewart and Frank Jackson each scored 19 points for Detroit. Stewart grabbed 12 rebounds.

The Pistons host the Cleveland Cavaliers tomorrow night.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers bats were quiet again Saturday night, as they lost to the Oakland Athletics 7-0. It was the second straight shutout for Detroit. Tigers’ batters have been held to just nine singles in the past two games. Casey Mize took the loss, giving up five runs over five innings.

The Tigers conclude that series in Oakland this afternoon. Matthew Boyd will pitch against Chris Bassitt. Coverage will begin at 3:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Brett Anderson pitched seven strong innings, as the Milwaukee Brewers breezed past the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-1 Saturday night. Anderson allowed a run on six hits. He got an early cushion, as the Crew scored five times in the first inning, and added two more runs in the second.

The Brewers entertain the Pirates again this afternoon. Freddy Peralta will start against Chad Kuhl.

After missing his fifth straight game with back problems, Christian Yelich was placed on the 10-day injured list yesterday. Reliever Eric Yardley was added to the roster.
