Tigers Lose Ground in AL Central
David Price gave up three runs in the first inning… and was chased in the sixth… as the Tigers lost to the Twins 8-4 last night. Detroit had taken an early lead with two runs in the top of the first. They reclaimed the lead with two in the top of the second, but couldn’t score again.
The Tigers have today off, and open a series at Kansas City tomorrow night. Justin Verlander will start on four days rest for Detroit. Jason Vargas will counter for the Royals. Hear the first pitch at 8:10 on FM 99.3 and AM 1400, WCCY.
Kansas City won last night, so Detroit’s lead over the Royals in the American League Central Division is now just a half-game.
Brewers Blanked by Cards
Mike Fiers pitched no-hit ball into the sixth inning, but the Brewers wound up losing to the Cardinals 2-0 last night. Saint Louis broke through in the seventh, with help from an error by Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez. Meanwhile, the Brewers’ offense was held in check by Cardinals’ ace Adam Wainwright.
The Brewers wrap up that series at Saint Louis tonight. Kyle Lohse will start against Shelby Miller.
The loss drops Milwaukee six games behind Saint Louis, in third place in the National League Central Division. Second-place Pittsburgh also won. The Pirates hold a two-and-a-half game edge over the Brewers in the race for the second wild card playoff spot.
