Finlandia Volleyball, Women’s Soccer Fall
The Finlandia University volleyball team fell to Wisconsin-Superior 3-0, and Carleton College 3-0 yesterday.
The Lions’ women’s soccer team lost to Augsburg College 15-0 yesterday. The Auggies set a school record for the most goals in a game. They outshot the Lions 45-0.
MTU/NMU Footballers Honored
Michigan Tech defensive back DeShawn Nelson has been named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week. Nelson had 11 tackles in the Huskies’ victory over Grand Valley on Saturday. He forced a fumble, and made an interception that led to a Tech touchdown. Northern Michigan University kick returner Marcus Tucker is the GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week. He returned six kicks for 204 yards in the Wildcats’ win over Wayne State.
Meanwhile, the unbeaten Huskies have moved to 13th in the latest American Football Coaches Association Division II Poll. They’ll host sixth-ranked Ferris State Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs are also unbeaten.
NFL
In last night’s NFL game, the Steelers defeated the Texans 30-23. If you played the Wolf Pro Football Challenge, you need to have picked at least 12 games correctly to be eligible to be this week’s winner.
NHL – Red Wings Prepare for Canadiens
The Detroit Red Wings skate at Montreal tonight. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
Pavel Datsyuk could see his first action of the season tonight. He’s been out with a separated shoulder, and will be a gametime decision. Detroit will be without Johan Franzen, who has a groin injury. Franzen has been placed on short-term injured reserve, and will also miss Thursday’s game against the Penguins.
NBA – Pistons Prepare for Final Preseason Game
The Detroit Pistons play their final NBA preseason game at home against the 76ers Thursday night. We will carry select Pistons games this season on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
