Tigers Rip Chisox
The Tigers scored five runs in the third inning, and cruised to a 7-1 victory over the White Sox last night. Detroit took advantage of two errors by first baseman Jose Abreu to build a big cushion for starter Justin Verlander. Verlander struggled early – allowing a run in the first inning, and then loading the bases before striking out Tyler Flowers to end the threat. He strengthened as the night went on, allowing nine hits over seven innings, but no more runs.
The Tigers play two in Chicago today. The first is a make-up of a rainout on June 10th. Max Scherzer will start against Chris Sale. Hear the first pitch at 1:10 on FM 99.3 and AM 1400, WCCY. The regularly-scheduled game will be played tonight. Kyle Ryan will make his major-league debut for the Tigers. He’ll face Chris Bassitt, who will be making his debut for the White Sox. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on FM 99.3 and AM 1400, WCCY.
The Royals lost again yesterday, so Detroit now trails Kansas City in the American League Central Division by just a half-game.
Brewers Pounded by Giants
Wily Peralta struggled, and the Brewers lost to the Giants 13-2 last night. Peralta gave up six runs on nine hits over just three innings. Marco Estrada relieved him, and gave up seven runs on six hits over two innings.
The Brewers play in San Francisco again this evening. Mike Fiers will start against Jake Peavy.
The Cardinals also lost, so Milwaukee continues to lead Saint Louis by a game-and-a-half in the National League Central Division.
