Fast Pitch All-Stars Play to 7-7 Tie – Saturday Sports Wrap

MLB

The Detroit Tigers lost to the Kansas City Royals 8-5 in their return from the All-Star break last night. The game was close until Martin Maldonado hit a two-run homer off Blaine Hardy in the seventh inning. Starter Spencer Turnbull lasted just three frames, and gave up five runs. Victor Reyes had three hits and scored twice for Detroit.

The Tigers continue that series in Kansas City today. Matthew Boyd will pitch against Brad Keller. Pregame coverage will start at 6:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Catcher Grayson Greiner won’t be rejoining the Tigers anytime soon. Greiner has been on the injured list with a lower back problem. It flared up again during a rehab assignment in Lakeland, and he’s been shut down indefinitely for more treatment.

Buster Posey’s grand slam off Matt Albers in the top of the 10th inning powered the San Francisco Giants to a 10-7 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers last night. The blow capped a wild finish, in which the Giants tied the game with a solo home run off Josh Hader in the eighth, and took the lead with another solo shot off Hader in the ninth. Milwaukee forced extra innings with a run in the bottom of the ninth. Keston Hiura homered for the Crew.

The Brewers will host the Giants again tonight. Zach Davies will start against Madison Bumgarner.

Milwaukee has signed starter Shelby Miller to a minor league deal. Miller was an all-star for the Cardinals in 2015, but has struggled with injuries since. He was recently released by the Texas Rangers.
