Errant Pistons Fall to Cavs – Thursday Sports Wrap

High School

The Houghton High School swim team begins its season at home today against Marquette.

College Soccer

The Finlandia University men’s soccer team has gained a new recruit. Ben Young was the team defensive MVP for Stockbridge High School.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons couldn’t overcome 22 turnovers, and lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers 122-107 last night. Jerami Grant scored 26 for Detroit, and Mason Plumlee collected 12 rebounds.

The Pistons host the Los Angeles Lakers tonight.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings visit the Dallas Stars this evening. Coverage begins at 8:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

Former Detroit Tigers pitcher Ivan Nova has signed a one-year free agent deal with the Philadelphia Phillies. Nova began last summer in the Detroit rotation, but made only four starts before an injury cut his season short.

Television

Say “goodbye” to Fox Sports Detroit. Fox sold all of its regional sports networks to Sinclair Broadcasting in 2019, but the title remained in place. Last November, Sinclair sold the naming rights to the Bally’s gaming company. Expect the name “Bally’s Sports Detroit,” or something very similar, to be in use by the start of the baseball season.
