MLB – Sanchez Bombed as Tigers Fall
Anibal Sanchez gave up six runs over 6-2/3rds innings, as the Detroit Tigers lost to the Baltimore Orioles 6-2 yesterday. The outing was Sanchez’ worst since May. Detroit’s only runs came on a home run by Nick Castellanos in the fifth inning.
The Tigers play at Baltimore again this afternoon. Daniel Norris will make his Detroit debut against Kevin Gausman. Hear the first pitch at 1:35 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
J.D. Martinez left yesterday’s game in the third inning, after fouling a ball off his knee. An X-ray showed no damage, and he’s considered day-to-day.
The Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 last night. Matt Garza gave up just four hits over six innings, but one was a three-run homer to Anthony Rizzo.
The Brewers wrap up that home set against the Cubs this afternoon. Kyle Lohse will pitch against Clayton Richard.
Baraga County Fair Wraps Today
The Baraga County Fair concludes at the fairgrounds in Pelkie today. Competitions include the Off-Road Derby at 1:00… and the Demolition Derby at 5:00. Link to the full fair schedule here.
Eles Takes Copperman Triathlon
Stephen Eles from Houghton took the title at the Aspirus Copperman Triathlon Saturday, finishing 34 seconds ahead of Jeff Juntti of Negaunee. Alea Juntti of Negaunee was the top women’s finisher. The Bete Gris Beachcombers team of Zachary Carder, Derek Carder and Carla Carder won the team triathlon. Tom Wood of Houghton won the duathlon. Karla Juntti of Negaunee was the top woman, and second overall. The Wifi Poachers team of Kristin Johnson, Drew Wilson and Philip Carlton won the team duathlon. Full results are posted here.
