Portage Lake Little League is hosting the Minors District Baseball Tournament at the South Range field. Competition continues today. Yesterday’s results and today’s schedule have not been provided.

MLB

The Tigers mounted a furious late comeback, and claimed an 11-9, 10-inning win over the Dodgers Saturday. Detroit trailed by five runs entering the bottom of the ninth. Matt Vierling doubled home two runs, and scored on a Carson Kelly single. Colt Keith’s two-out, two-run homer tied the contest. Gio Urshela’s two-run blast in the bottom of the 10th ended the game. Ryan Vilade and Andy Ibáñez homered earlier in the game. Vilade’s was his first in the majors.

The Tigers host the Dodgers again this afternoon. With the All-Star break ahead, Beau Brieske will start a bullpen day for Detroit. L-A has not named a starter, but is expected to use its bullpen, as well. Coverage will begin at 1:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers dropped a 6-5 decision to the Nationals this afternoon. All of Milwaukee’s runs came in the bottom of the first inning, off doubles by Rhys Hoskins and Andruw Monasterio, and a single by Eric Haase. Freddy Peralta struggled through five innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits. Sal Frelick had three hits for Milwaukee. Dallas Keuchel left after surrendering three runs in the fourth inning. C.J. Abrams’ two-run homer off Trevor Magill in the top of the ninth was the game-winner.

The Brewers entertain the Nationals again this afternoon. Colin Rae will pitch against Jake Irvin.

The Major League Baseball draft begins with rounds one and two tonight. The Tigers have the 11th and 49th picks. The Brewers hold the 17th and 57th selections, plus the 34th pick, which they got as compensation for losing free agent Corbin Burnes.

Rounds three through 10 will take place tomorrow, and rounds 11 through 20 on Tuesday.

Cycling

At the Miner’s Revenge mountain biking competition at Greenland Saturday…
• Mike Cortright of Boyne City won the Expert Enduro, with Sam O’Carroll of Nelsonville, Wisconsin second. Annett Trebitz of Duluth won the women’s crown.
• Garrett Smith of Shawano, Wisconsin took the Sport Enduro title, with Ian Taylor of Minneapolis as runner-up. Kyia Anderson of Calumet was the fastest woman.
• O’Carroll won the downhill race, with Alexander McTaggert of Petoskey second.
