MLB
Nicholas Castellanos’ grand slam powered the Detroit Tigers to a 5-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays last night. Buck Farmer earned the win, giving up two runs before leaving after he allowed the first two batters in the sixth inning to reach base. He was relieved by Drew VerHagen, who got Kevin Pillar to hit a sharp grounder to third base. Jeimer Candelario fielded the ball cleanly, stepped on the bag, tossed the ball to Ian Kinsler at second, who then threw to Efren Navarro at first to complete Detroit’s first triple play since 2001.

The Tigers continue that series at Toronto this afternoon. Chad Bell will start against Brett Anderson. We’ll join the game in progress after Finlandia University football on 99.3 The Lift.

Ryan Braun’s two-run homer in the first inning – the 300th of his career – was all the Milwaukee Brewers needed, as they blanked the Chicago Cubs 2-0 last night. Jimmy Nelson, Josh Hader, Anthony Swarzak and Cory Knebel combined for the shutout.

The Brewers face the Cubs in Chicago again this afternoon. Chase Anderson will start against Mike Montgomery.

The Cardinals also won, so they and the Brewers both trail the Cubs by four games in the National League Central Division race.

NFL
