High School
In high school football last night…
– Hancock scored on its first six possessions, and rolled over Hurley 56-20. Aaron Barnes scored three touchdowns for the Bulldogs.
– Houghton earned its first win of the season, shutting out Northland Pines 32-0.
– West Iron County took sole possession of first place in the WestPAC, with a 53-20 victory over Calumet.
– The Gogebic Miners knocked L’Anse out of a share of first place in the WestPAC with a 26-7 win. Jacob Suzik scored twice for the Miners.
– Ontonagon fell at Stephenson 54-16.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University men’s soccer team welcomes Great Lakes Christian College today at noon.

The Finlandia football team hosts Lewis-Clark Valley today at 5:00 at McAfee Field. Our pregame coverage will begin around 4:40 on 99.3 The Lift, and 993TheLift.com.

The Finlandia volleyball team plays at Carroll University today.

The Finlandia hockey program is holding a garage sale today. Used equipment will be available, including helmets, gloves, sticks and skate sharpeners. The sale will run from 10:00 until 2:00 at the Houghton County Arena.

MTU
The MTU soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Saginaw Valley State yesterday. The Cardinals’ goal came on a penalty kick in the 78th minute.

The Huskies volleyball team dropped a tough 3-2 (23-25, 25-13, 25-20, 23-25, 16-18) decision at Grand Valley State last night. MacAuley Peterson and Mariah Sherman each recorded 15 kills. Elle Heinonen had 28 digs. The Huskies play at Wayne State today.

The MTU football team entertains Northern Michigan University in the annual Miner’s Cup game tonight at 7:00 at Sherman Field.

MLB
Matthew Boyd gave up five runs over the first two innings, as the Detroit Tigers lost to the Minnesota Twins 6-3 last night. Boyd settled down, completed five innings, and took the loss. Nicholas Castellanos drove in two runs, to give him 100 RBI for the season.

The Tigers play their next-to-last game of the season tonight at Minnesota. Buck Farmer will pitch against Aaron Slegers. Because of Finlandia University football on 99.3 The Lift, pregame coverage will begin at 7:45 on KBear 102.3.

The Milwaukee Brewers kept their fading playoff hopes alive last night, with a 5-3 victory over the Saint Louis Cardinals. Steven Vogt homered, and drove in two runs. Chase Anderson pitched into the eighth inning, and gave up a run on three hits.

The Brewers continue that series at Saint Louis tonight. Junior Guerra will start against Luke Weaver.

Colorado also won yesterday. With two games remaining, the Brewers trail the Rockies by two games in the race for the final National League wild card playoff berth.

NHL
The Toronto Maple Leafs scored twice in the third period, and defeated the Detroit Red Wings 4-2 last night in NHL exhibition play. Rookie Michael Rasmussen scored his third goal of the preseason for Detroit. Jimmy Howard took the loss.

The Wings play at Toronto tonight. Listen for regular-season Red Wings games beginning Thursday on 99.3 The Lift.
