Calumet’s Elli Djerf has been named the WestPAC girls Player of the Year. The unbeaten Copper Kings swept the league’s top honors, with Alexis Strom named Defensive Player of the Year, and Matt Laho Coach of the Year. Among local players, Marybeth Halonen joined Strom on the Dream Team, along with Houghton’s Maryellen Trewhella. Jana Loukus of Calumet, Kaisa Salani of Hancock and Paige Sleeman of Houghton were named to the first team. Houghton’s Stella Wickstrom was placed on the second team, and Bella Hebert of Hancock earned honorable mention.
Foster Wonders of Iron Mountain was named the boys Player of the Year. Mountaineers coach Bucky Johnson was honored as Coach of the Year. Justin Nelson of West Iron County was named Defensive Player of the Year. Among local players, Calumet’s Brevin Antilla was named to the first team. Dryden Nelson of the Copper Kings was named to the second team, along with Hancock’s Carson Chynoweth. Honorable mention votes went to Gabe Smith of the Bulldogs, Dylan Primeau of the Gremlins, and Kip Kangas of the Copper Kings.
