The Tigers scored as many runs in the first inning yesterday as they had totaled in the previous five games, and went on to an 11-2 victory over the White Sox. Matt Vierling led off the game with a triple, and scored on Colt Keith’s home run. Akil Baddoo added a two-run shot, as Detroit plated five runs in the opening inning. They added four more in the second, with an RBI single from Keith, and a three-run Riley Greene homer. Zach McInstry knocked a late home run. Reese Olson turned in six shutout innings, but left in the seventh as the Sox scored their runs.
The Tigers host the Phillies tonight. Casey Mize will start against Aaron Nola. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers also broke out early, scoring five runs in the second inning, on the way to a 6-2 win over the Padres yesterday. Brice Turang’s two-run triple was the big blow. Tobias Myers turned in another fine start, giving up one run over five innings.
The Brewers welcome the Rangers tonight. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Michael Lorenzen.
NHL
The Stanley Cup will be decided tonight, as the Panthers host the Oilers. Florida won the first three games of the series. Edmonton has taken the last three.
