MLB

The Detroit Tigers fell to the Minnesota Twins 3-2 yesterday. All of Minnesota’s runs came in the fourth inning off Casey Mize, on an RBI single by Jorge Polanco, and a two-run homer by Josh Donaldson. Mize completed six innings, and took the loss. Derek Hill homered for Detroit.

The Tigers have lost three straight one-run games, and will host the Oakland A’s tonight. Tarik Skubal will start against Cole Irvin. Coverage will begin at 6:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Tigers brought pitcher Miguel Del Pozo up from Toledo yesterday. Del Pozo pitched to one batter in the ninth inning of yesterday’s game, and took a line drive off his chin. The injury is being evaluated. Detroit also assigned pitcher Ian Krol to the Mud Hens. Krol cleared waivers after he was designated for assignment Saturday.

The Milwaukee Brewers got past the San Francisco Giants 3-1 last night. Corbin Burnes pitched six shutout innings, and left after giving up a leadoff single in the seventh. That runner eventually scored. Burnes struck out nine, and singled home the winning run in the second inning.

The Brewers play at San Francisco again tonight. Brandon Woodruff will start for the Crew.

NFL

The Detroit Lions will open the season without their number-two quarterback. Team officials have confirmed that Tim Boyle broke his thumb during Friday’s exhibition loss to the Indianapolis Colts. He underwent surgery yesterday, and could miss much of the season. David Blough will move into the back-up role.

The Lions began their final cuts yesterday. Among them was receiver Breshad Perriman, whom they had signed to a $3 million deal over the summer. He is the son of former Lions receiver Brett Perriman. NFL teams must trim their rosters to 53 players by 4:00 this afternoon.
