Rajai Davis hit two home runs, as the Detroit Tigers got past the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 yesterday. Davis’ second home run came with the score tied in the seventh inning. Al Alburquerque got the win in relief of Randy Wolf. Wolf was pulled in the fifth inning. He gave up all four Rays runs. Bruce Rondon escaped a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to earn the save. The Tigers continue that home set against the Tampa Bay Rays this evening. Matt Boyd will start against Erasmo Ramirez. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
A couple of Detroit’s injured starting pitchers may be close to returning. Anibal Sanchez threw around 30 pitches off a mound yesterday morning. He’s recovering from a rotator cuff strain. His next step will depend on how he feels today. Daniel Norris threw a similar session Sunday afternoon. He may throw a simulated game this weekend, in hopes of bringing him back before the end of the season.
With the Triple-A season now over, the Tigers are bringing four more players up from Toledo. Outfielder Steven Moya, left-hander Ian Krol and infielders Jefry Marte and Josh Wilson will join the team.
Zach Davies earned his first major league win, as the Milwaukee Brewers pounded the Miami Marlins 9-1 yesterday. Davies gave up four hits and one run over seven innings. Khris Davis homered for Milwaukee. Game details are here.
The Brewers continue that series at Miami against the Marlins tonight. Taylor Jungmann will pitch against Adam Conley.
With the Triple-A season now over, the Brewers have recalling infielder Luis Sardinas from Colorado Springs, and purchased the contract of catcher Nevin Ashley. Both are expected to be available to play tonight. The Brewers have removed pitchers Preston Guilmet and Brandon Kintzler from their 40-man roster.

NFL – Packers Sign Jones; Lions Lose Moore
The Green Bay Packers have signed veteran wide receiver James Jones. Jones played his first seven NFL seasons in Green Bay. He played for the Raiders last season, and was a late cut from the Giants’ training camp last week.
Packers’ rookie wide receiver Adrian Coxson has retired from football. Coxson was taken off the field on a stretcher after suffering a severe concussion during a practice session on August 1st. He says he’s still not recovered fully, and his doctors have told him that another such blow could cause permanent damage, or even kill him.
After waiving quarterback Kellen Moore last week, the Detroit Lions wanted to sign him to their practice squad. Instead, Moore opted to join the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad. Detroit’s fourth-round quarterback from the preseason, Garrett Gilbert, has signed with the Oakland Raiders. Lions’ officials say they hope to sign a new emergency backup today.
