• Paul Hyrkas Construction split its doubleheader, losing to McGann’s/Northern Auto 30-10, then defeating Downtowner Two 38-17.
Fast Pitch Softball
In Copper Country Women’s Fast Pitch Softball League action last evening…
• Crush-Diamond House came from behind to edge JB’s 8-7. JB’s broke open a tie game with two runs in the top of the final inning, but Crush scored three times in the bottom of the frame to earn the win. The big blow was a two-run double by Becca Lyons. Emily Jokela pitched the first four innings and Sarah Audette pitched the last two for Crush. Grace Brunet took the loss for JB’s.
• Superior Service outscored Tervo Agency 15-10. Josie Connors, Reagon Moyle and Milly Loukus shared the mound for Superior Service. Mel Baker took the loss for Tervo Agency.
Twilight League Baseball

In the NBA championship series, the Suns host the Bucks tonight. Phoenix leads the series 1-0.
NHL
The Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup championship last night, edging the Montreal Canadiens 1-0 in the fifth game of the series. Ross Colton found the net midway through the second period for the game’s only score.
MLB
The Detroit Tigers defeated the Texas Rangers 5-3 yesterday. Casey Mize gave up two solo home runs to Joey Gallo over four innings, and was pulled as the team limits his pitches. Kyle Funkhauser contributed two scoreless innings in relief, and earned the win. Jeimer Candelario homered early. The Tigers broke open a tie game with three runs in the seventh inning on RBI singles by Miguel Cabrera and Jonathan Schoop, and a bases-loaded walk to Robbie Grossman.
The Tigers visit the Minnesota Twins tonight. Tarik Skubal will start against J.A. Happ. Coverage begins at 7:50 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit has moved pitcher Spencer Turnbull to the 60-day disabled list, after he experienced more problems with his forearm strain. The soonest he could be back is early August. Ian Krol was brought up from Toledo before yesterday’s game, and Bryan Garcia was sent down. Niko Goodrum was brought off the injured list, and Daz Cameron was added to the injured list because of a sprained toe.
The Milwaukee Brewers split their doubleheader against the New York Mets yesterday. In the first contest, the Crew led 2-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Mets scored one off Josh Hader to force an extra frame. Milwaukee reclaimed the lead in the top of the eighth when Christian Yelich was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, but Jeff McNeill’s bases-loaded single off Brent Suter in the bottom of the eighth drove home two runs to end the game 4-3. Luis Urías and Jace Peterson homered for Milwaukee. In the second contest, Brett Anderson and three relievers held the Mets to just three singles in a 5-0 victory. Urías homered again, and Manny Piña and Willy Adames went deep.
The Brewers host the Cincinnati Reds tonight. Adrian Houser will pitch against Tyler Mahle.
Milwaukee designated infielder Daniel Robertson for assignment yesterday, and brought pitcher Jandel Gustave up from Nashville.
