MLB
The Detroit Tigers had yesterday off, and host the Chicago Cubs tonight. Jordan Zimmermann will start against Kyle Hendricks. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Nicholas Castellanos of the Tigers has been named the American League Player of the Week. Castellanos had 11 hits in seven games, including two home runs and three doubles. He drove in 10 runs.

Travis Shaw’s two-run homer in the sixth inning powered the Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds last night. Christian Yelich also homered for the Crew. Chase Anderson gave up two solo home runs in the second inning, but those were the only two hits he allowed over six frames. The win moved Milwaukee into the first National League wild card playoff berth – a half-game ahead of Saint Louis, Colorado and Philadelphia.

The Brewers host the Reds again tonight. Junior Guerra will pitch against Sal Romano.

NFL
The Detroit Lions released defensive lineman Cornelius Washington yesterday. Washington played in 15 games last season, and had two-and-a-half sacks. The move will save nearly three-million dollars in salary cap space.
