Copper Kings Remain Unbeaten – Saturday Sports Wrap

High School
In high school football last night…
– Calumet remained unbeaten with a 35-0 win over Houghton. The Copper Kings’ running game dominated the offense. Travis Ojala rushed for two touchdowns, and Trevor Hendrickson, Sam Erkkila and Andy Helminen each scored one. The Calumet defense turned in its third straight shutout, and has now allowed just 32 points in seven games.
– Hancock fell to Iron Mountain 28-21. Colton Salani threw a pair of touchdown passes, and Brendan LeClaire ran for a score. The Bulldogs fall to 2-5 on the season.
– L’Anse lost to Westwood 22-0. The Purple Hornets drop to 3-4 on the season.
– Ontonagon got past Stephenson 20-8. The Gladiators improve to 4-3.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University volleyball team fell 3-2 (23-25, 25-23, 25-18, 22-25, 12-15) at Macalester College yesterday. The Lions will face Wisconsin-River Falls and Hamline University today. Both matches will be played in Saint Paul.

The Finlandia women’s soccer team will host Grace Christian University today at 6:30 at McAfee Field.

The first-ever Finlandia University homecoming football game will be played this afternoon. The Lions will entertain unbeaten Kalamazoo College. The Bleed Blue Homecoming Parade will begin at 11:00, and go from Quincy Green to McAfee Field. Our pregame broadcast will begin at 12:40 on 99.3 The Lift, and TheLift.com.

MTU
The Michigan Tech soccer team fell 3-1 at Grand Valley State last night. The Lakers broke open a close contest with two goals in the 85th minute. Grace Shaw scored for the Huskies.

The Huskies volleyball team swept Purdue-Northwest 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-21) last night. Olivia Ghormley led the Huskies with 20 kills. Mariah Sherman added 10, and passed the 1,000 mark for her career. Laura DeMarchi had 35 assists, and Megan Utlak had nine digs.

The Tech football team will face Ferris State today at Fifth Third Ballpark in Grand Rapids.

NMU
The Northern Michigan University football team will host Northwood this afternoon.

MLB
The Milwaukee Brewers shut out the Colorado Rockies 4-0 yesterday. Pitching on short rest, Jhoulys Chacín gave up three hits over five innings. Corey Knebel, Joakim Soria and Josh Hader added scoreless frames, and Jeremy Jeffress turned in a two-inning save. Hernán Pérez singled home the winning run in the fourth inning, but the game remained tight until Milwaukee added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth. Milwaukee leads that National League Divisional Series two games to none. The set continues in Colorado tomorrow afternoon.

The Los Angeles Dodgers blanked the Atlanta Braves 3-0, and lead the other National League Divisional Series two games to none. That series continues in Atlanta tomorrow night.

Both American League Divisional Series began yesterday. The Houston Astros downed the Cleveland Indians 7-2, and the Boston Red Sox edged the New York Yankees 5-4. Both of those series continue today.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings will visit the Los Angeles Kings tomorrow. Because of NFL football on 99.3 The Lift, pregame coverage will begin at 10:05 on KBear 102.3.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons lost a preseason game to the Spurs in San Antonio 117-93 last night. Andre Drummond led Detroit with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Listen for selected Pistons regular-season games on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
The Green Bay Packers visit the Detroit Lions in a 1:00 game tomorrow. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift. The Lions will play without Ezekiel Ansah, who’s still nursing s shoulder injury; and without guard T.J. Lang, who hasn’t cleared concussion protocol.
