MLB

The Tigers gave up an early advantage, then came back to edge the Yankees 4-3 yesterday. Detroit took a 3-0 lead into the top of the ninth, with help from a Zack Short home run. Anthony Volpe’s three-run shot off Alex Lange with two outs in the bottom of the ninth forced extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th, Parker Meadows’ clean hard slide on what should have been a double play knocked second baseman Gleyber Torres off balance. His throw to first sailed wide, and Kerry Carpenter scored the winning run.

The Tigers visit the White Sox tonight. Eduardo Rodriguez will start against Touki Toussaint. Coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Utility player Andre Lipcius and reliever Miguel Díaz will join the Tigers tonight, as the two extra players added to the roster for the final month of the season.

The Brewers had yesterday off, and welcome the Phillies tonight. Freddy Peralta will start against Zack Wheeler.

The Cubs were also idle yesterday, so Milwaukee’s lead over Chicago in the National League Central Division remains at three games.
