High School
In high school hockey, Calumet faces Hancock in the Copper Island Classic tonight and tomorrow night. Both games will begin at 7:00 the Colosseum. Tonight’s contest is an official game, but does not count in the Great Lakes Hockey Conference standings. Tomorrow night’s game is a conference match. The John A. Derf trophy goes to the team that scores the most total points in the two games. Hancock won both games in the Classic last year, 4-3 and 5-1.
Finlandia
The Finlandia University women’s basketball team is in Whittier, California, for the Purple and Gold Poet Classic. They’ll face Chapman University tonight, and the host Whittier College Poets tomorrow.
The Finlandia men’s hockey team skates at Wisconsin-Eau Claire tomorrow night and Sunday afternoon.
MTU
The MTU men’s basketball team will entertain Concordia-St. Paul tomorrow. Tip-off is at 4:00 at the SDC.
The Tech women’s team is at the Concordia-St. Paul Classic, where they’ll face Augustana this afternoon, and the host Golden Bears tomorrow.
The MTU hockey team skates at Alaska-Anchorage tonight and tomorrow night.
NMU
The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team is at the Gary Miller Classic at Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania. They’ll face the College of St. Rose this afternoon, and either West Virginia Wesleyan or the host Golden Knights tomorrow.
The Wildcats women’s team opens the Bellarmine Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky, against the host Knights tomorrow afternoon, and then plays Southern Indiana tomorrow afternoon.
The NMU hockey team visits Nebraska-Omaha tonight and tomorrow night.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings face the Rangers in New York tonight. Pregame coverage begins at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons will play at Oklahoma City tonight.
NFL
In yesterday’s NFL games…
– The Detroit Lions couldn’t climb out of an early hole, and lost to the Minnesota Vikings 30-23. Matthew Stafford set a new NFL record for the most career passing yards for a quarterback under age 30, eclipsing the previous record set by Peyton Manning.
– The Los Angeles Chargers rolled over the Dallas Cowboys 28-6.
– Washington downed the New York Giants 20-10.
