This year’s Calumet High School Athletic Hall of Fame class will be inducted September 16th.
The ceremony will take place at 11:00am in the CLK School Commons. The event is open to the public and is free to attend.
Biographies of the honorees were provided by the CLK Schools Athletic Department:
Scott Boddy graduated from Gladstone High School in 1983 where he lettered in football, basketball, and tennis. In football, he was All-Conference in 1981 and 1982. Scott was named to the All U.P. – All-Class Dream Team, United Press International Football AllState, and set the Gladstone rushing record of 1,640 yards in 1982. In basketball he averaged 16 points during his senior year and earned All-Conference and All U.P. 2nd Team honors. Scott played football at Michigan Tech, earning 3 varsity letters in 1984, 1985, and 1986. He holds the MTU Kickoff Return Average Record in a game (45.7 yards) vs. St. Norbert in 1986. Scott coached track at Calumet High School in 1991, coached golf from 1995-1999 where he won a Class C Girls U.P. Golf Championship in 1995 and Class C Boys U.P. Golf Championship in 1997. He coached varsity football at Calumet for 10 years with a record of 65-28 from 1990-1999. While at Calumet, Scott earned WestPAC Coach of the year in 1996 & 1998, U.P. Class A-B-C Coach of the Year in 1996, Regional Coach of the Year in 1996, and the Associated Press Michigan Class C Coach of the Year in 1996. Calumet made the playoffs for the 1st time in school history in 1993, and earned a WestPAC Championship for the 1st time in school history in 1994. Teams that Coach Boddy coached were in the state football playoffs 11 out of 16 years. His teams won WestPAC Championships at CHS 6 years in a row from 1994 to 1999. After Calumet, Scott coached varsity football at Iron Mountain for 6 years, from 2005-2010, with a record of 50 21. While at Iron Mountain, his teams won 3 Mid-Peninsula Championships (2006, 2007, 2008), won 4 district championships (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010), and won 1 regional championship in 2010. He earned Michigan Regional Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2008. Scott finished his 16-year varsity football coaching career at Calumet and Iron Mountain with a combined overall record of 115-49. Scott is also a member of the Gladstone High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Josh Cone earned 9 letters in track (3), football (3), and basketball (3) while attending Calumet High School from 1994-1998. In football he earned 1st Team All-Conference honors as a running back and was named All-Conference Player of the Year in 1996. Josh was named All-U.P. 1st Team Class A-B-C Running Back in 1996. As a senior, he earned 1st Team All-Conference honors as a running back and as a kicker in 1997. That same season, Josh was named All-Conference Player of the Year. In 1997, he set school records for most points in a game (33), and most touchdowns in a game (5). Both of these records stand at the time of induction. In basketball, Josh was named 1st Team AllConference in both 1995 and 1996. He was named 2nd Team All-U.P. Class A-B-C in 1997. Josh also earned 1st Team All-Conference honors and All State Honorable Mention in 1998. He set the school records at the time for: Most steals in a season (56), most assists in a season (60), best shooting percentage in a season (43%), best 3-point shooting percentage in a season (40%), all during the 1996-97 season. Josh once held the record for the most points in a career with 1098 (1994-1998). In track and field, he earned All-State honors in the High Jump and Long Jump, and was a two-time U.P. Champion in the High Jump in 1997 and 1998. Josh set the school record in the High Jump (6’5”) in 1998. This record stands at the time of induction. Josh was a key member of a Calumet track team that won back-to-back U.P. Championships in 1997 and 1998.
Heather Peterlin Rilei earned 11 letters in basketball (3), volleyball (4), and track (4) while attending Calumet High School from 1992-1996. In basketball, she earned All Conference Honorable Mention as a sophomore in 1994, 1st Team All-Conference as a junior in 1995 and 2nd Team All-Conference as a senior in 1996. Heather was also selected to serve as captain of the basketball team as a junior in 1995 and as a senior in 1996. During her career she set the record for the most rebounds in a career (796) between 1993-1995. This record stands at the time of induction. In volleyball, Heather helped lead her team to three consecutive U.P. State Championships in 1994, 1995, 1996. She earned 1st Team All-Conference as a sophomore in 1994, junior in 1995 and as a senior in 1996. Heather was selected to the All-U.P. Volleyball Team as a junior in 1995. She was captain of the volleyball team as a sophomore in 1994, junior in 1995, and as a senior in 1996. In track and field, Heather placed in multiple regional meets in the 100M Hurdles, 300M Hurdles, 400M Relay, 800M Relay, and 1600M Relay. She earned All-State honors in the 800M Relay and 1600M Relay as a sophomore in 1994. Heather was also selected to represent Calumet High School in the National Women in Sports Day as a senior in 1996.
Lance Peterlin earned 10 letters in football (3), basketball (3), track (4) while attending Calumet High School from 1990-1994. In football, Lance earned All-Conference Honorable Mention as a sophomore in 1991 and as a junior in 1992. In 1993, Lance was named 1st Team All-Conference, and All U.P. Class A-B-C Back of the Year as a senior. In 1994, he received a rare selection to the Michigan East/West All-Star Football Game at Michigan State University. Lance set the following school records: Most passes caught in
a season (32), most passes caught in a career (50), most receiving yards in a season (540), most receiving touchdowns in a game (3), most punt/kick returns for a touchdown in a season (5), and most punt/kick returns for a touchdown in a career (6). These records still stand at the time of induction. In basketball, Lance earned All-Conference Honorable Mention in 1992-93 and 2nd Team All-Conference in 1993-94. He set the school records at the time for: Most 3-point attempts in a season (106), most 3-point shots made in a season (31), most 3-point shots attempted in a career (193), and most 3-point shots made in a career (59). In track, Lance set school records in the 100M dash and 200M dash and scored a total of 177 points in 1994. He earned All-State honors in the 100M, 200M, 400M, and Long Jump seven times between 1992-1994. In 1994 he was awarded the George Gipp All-American Award as the most outstanding senior male athlete in the class of 1994. Lance was recruited to play football at Michigan Tech University.
Matt Wise earned 5 letters in cross country (1), football (1), and track (3) while attending Calumet High School from 1998-2002. In track, he earned the WestPAC MVP honors in both 2001 & 2002. Matt placed 1st in the 110M High Hurdles as a sophomore at the U.P. Class C Finals, while finishing 3rd in the 100M Dash, and 4th in the 200M Dash (2000). As a junior, Matt placed 1st in the 110M High Hurdles, 1st in the 800M Relay, 1st in the 300M Hurdles while setting a new meet record, and 1st in the 200M Dash at the U.P. Division 1 Finals in 2001. In 2002 Matt placed 1st in the 110M High Hurdles, 1st in the 100M Dash while setting a new meet record, 1st in the 300M Hurdles as a senior, while setting his second meet record of the day and breaking his own record from the previous year, and 1st in the 200M Dash as a senior at the U.P. Division 1 Finals. All totaled, he won 9 U.P. Finals races, and was named All-State 11 times between 2000-2002. Matt is one of only ten male athletes in Michigan to win four MHSAA Individual event state titles in a single championship meet (2002). In 2001 Matt was a part of the 800M relay team that set the school record (1:32.65). In 2002, he set the school record in the 110M High Hurdles (14.51), 300M Hurdles (40.41), 200M Dash (22.06), 400M Dash (51.09), most points in a season (298.50), and most points in a career (629). All of these records stand at the time of induction. Matt holds, at the time of induction, the U.P. Division 1 record in the 110M hurdles with a time of 14.8 set in 2002. In 2017, he was named by MLIVE as one of the 25 best track athletes in the State of Michigan in a 25-year span between 1992-2016. Matt Wise is listed at #18.
