In boys hoops last night…
- Chassell claimed the Copper Mountain Conference Copper Country Division title with a 62-54 victory over Dollar Bay-Tamarack City. Blade Warren scored 19 for the Panthers, and Elijah Soumis added 18. Ashton Janke had 16 for the Blue Bolts.
- Hancock lost to West Iron County 50-47. Devin Raasio scored 12 for the Bulldogs.
- Calumet defeated Lake Linden-Hubbell 72-45. Elijah McParlan led the Copper Kings with 19 points. Carter Crouch scored 17 for the Lakes.
- L’Anse downed Jeffers 52-38.
- Baraga lost a double-overtime heartbreaker to Watersmeet 70-65.
- Ontonagon defeated Bessemer 53-40.
The boys tournament begins Monday. Houghton plays at Kingsford – pregame coverage starts around 5:40 on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com. L’Anse tips off at Norway – pregame coverage begins around 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
In girls high school basketball this afternoon, Baraga entertains Lake Linden-Hubbell in a make-up contest from February 7th. The JV game will start at 1:00, with the varsity at 2:30.
The regular hockey season wraps up today, as Jeffers skates at Escanaba. The playoffs begin Tuesday, and we’ll broadcast every tournament game involving our local teams on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
Finlandia
The Finlandia University women’s basketball team opens the American Collegiate Athletic Association tournament today in Alfred, New York. The second-seeded Lions will face Valley Forge University at 2:00 in the second semifinal. Top-seeded Thomas More University will take on Alfred State University in the first semifinal. The championship game will be played Sunday.
The Finlandia University softball season begins this weekend at the annual Dome Tournament in Marquette. The Lions will play Marian University this evening at 7:00, and Edgewood College at 9:00. Tomorrow, the Lions will face the College of Saint Scholastica at 10:00, and Wisconsin-Superior at 2:00. We will broadcast all four games on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com.
MTU/NMU
The Michigan Tech hockey team defeated Alaska-Anchorage 3-2 last night. Jake Lucchini and Brian Halonen scored for the Huskies, and Jake ackson netted the game-winner on a power play with nine minutes remaining. Seamus Donohue had three assists. Matt Jurusik got the win in net, as the Huskies outshot the Seawolves 42-14. Those teams face off again tonight at 7:07 at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
The NMU hockey squad defeated 19th-ranked Lake Superior State University 4-2 last night. Those teams skate again tonight in Marquette. The game will decide the winner of the Cappo Cup. NMU currently leads the season series 2-1 with an 8-7 goal advantage.
Both Michigan Tech basketball teams play at Grand Valley State University this afternoon.
Both Northern Michigan University hoops squads will visit Davenport University today.

The Calumet Wolverines entertain the De Pere Deacons tonight at 7:30 at the Colosseum.
The Portage Lake Pioneers will welcome the Deacons tomorrow at noon.

The Detroit Red Wings dropped their fourth straight game last night, 3-2 to the Minnesota Wild. Tyler Bertuzzi and Anthony Mantha scored for Detroit. Jonathan Bernier made 32 saves. The Wings will host the San Jose Sharks tomorrow. Because of Finlandia University softball on 99.3 The Lift, pregame coverage will start at 2:40 onKBear 102.3.
The Wings are calling Filip Zadina up from Grand Rapids. Last spring’s first-round draft choice is expected to make his NHL debut tomorrow.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons pulled out a 125-122 victory over the Atlanta Hawks last night. Reggie Jackson scored 32 points, and Thon Maker hit a three-point shot in the closing second to win the game. The Pistons visit the Miami Heat tonight.
MLB
The Detroit Tigers defeated Southeastern University 13-2 in their annual spring exhibition game yesterday. The Tigers will begin their Grapefruit League schedule this afternoon against the Toronto Blue Jays. Listen for Tigers baseball again this season on 99.3 The Lift.
The Milwaukee Brewers will start their Cactus league campaign today against the Chicago Cubs.
