MLB

Kerry Carpenter’s return powered the Tigers to a lopsided 15-1 rout of the Mariners last night. Batting for the first time since he was placed on the injured list in late May, Carpenter blasted home runs in the first two innings. Jake Rogers added a grand slam in the fourth, and Gio Urshela and Javier Báez chipped in two in the sixth. Rogers finished with six runs batted in. While the Detroit offense pounded out 20 hits, Tarik Skubal held Seattle to just three hits and one run over six innings, and earned his league-leading 14th win of the season.

Those teams play in Detroit again this evening. Beau Brieske will start against Bryan Woo. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

To make room for Carpenter on the roster, Ryan Vilade was sent back to Toledo. Riley Greene is also headed to the Mud Hens to begin a rehab assignment tonight. Casey Mize made a rehab start for Toledo last evening, pitched scoreless ball into the fourth inning, and gave up just one hit.

The Brewers suffered their third straight loss, falling 7-2 to the Dodgers last night. Colin Rea struggled, allowing seven runs on 10 hits over six innings. William Contreras homered in his second-straight game.

The Brewers host the Dodgers again tonight. Frankie Montas will start for Milwaukee. L-A has not named a starter.
