Calumet’s Loukus Named “Mr. Hockey”

Calumet High School standout Dean Loukus has been named Michigan’s “Mr. Hockey” for 2021.

Loukus was selected from this year’s Dream Team members as the top player in the state by the Michigan High School Hockey Coaches Association. 

Calumet coach Dan Giachino says Loukus is the first winner from the Upper Peninsula since Ben Johnson of the Copper Kings won the award in 2011. Calumet’s Bob Rangus also won the honor in 1998.  

Loukus’ career stats and awards at Calumet High School include:
• 4 year varsity player
• 82 goals, 143 assists, 225 points in 101 games
• #1 all time in points at CHS with 225
• #1 all time in assists at CHS with 143
• #5 all time in goals at CHS with 82
• 3-time All State Academic Selection
• 2-time All State 1st Team Selection
• 2021 Dream Team Member
• 2-time All GLHC 1st Team Selection
• 2021 GLHC MVP
• 2021 Team Michigan forward
